NEW RECRUITING RULES FOR D1 PLAYERS

JUST PASSED - PLEASE READ

On April 18, 2018, the NCAA Division I Council adopts legislation that official visits (visits funded by the institution) can begin Sept. 1 of a prospect’s junior year in high school instead of the first day of classes for senior year (football and basketball will continue to have their own separate rules).

Additionally, athletics departments cannot participate in a recruit’s unofficial visit (visit funded by the family) until Sept. 1 of the recruit’s junior year in high school. Also, recruiting conversationsduring a school’s camp or clinic are prohibited before Sept. 1 of the junior year. If adopted, as anticipated, by the NCAA Board of Directors on Wednesday April 25, the unofficial visit legislation will be EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.

This new recruiting model allows potential student-athletes more time to make thoughtful decisions about their next steps after high school. These visit regulations apply to all sports, except football and basketball who have their own restrictions. The changes were supported by the national Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

If you have questions about unofficial visit plans for a specific prospect, please reach out to the college coach or have the student-athlete or her/his parent reach out. In volleyball, it is still legal for the prospect or her/his parents to initiate contact with a DI college staff.

For the complete press release, visit http://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/media-center/news/division-i-council-adopts-recruiting-legislation.

WANDO VOLLEYBALL RANKED 72 IN NATION IN PRESEASON POLLS

WANDO VOLLEYBALL RANKED 72 IN NATION IN PRESEASON POLLS

PREPVOLLEYBALL HS RANKINGS ACCORDING TO TEAMSNAP

72. Wando (Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina)
Last year’s record: 47-8; 2016 final ranking: 143

Recent history suggests that the Warriors will either win or finish second in South Carolina’s 5A class this fall. Alexis Glover’s team won it all in 2014 and 2015 and was runner up in 2012, 2013 and last year. Two All-State middles, Sydney DeJong and Katie Jacques, have graduated and will be impossible to replace. But the team has enough back in other positions to again challenge Dorman for the title. The leading returners are all seniors: setter Karen Majewski, libero Brooke Medders and outsides Keeghan Andrews and Lexi Hellberg. Hellberg, a solid six-rotation attacker, is healthy again after missing the second half of last season following shoulder surgery. Newcomers to watch include senior defender Natalie Bond, 6-3 junior middle Sarah Missroon and 5-11 junior RS/S Maddie Boylston,  “Barring injury, we should be a contender for the state again,” said Glover.
