LEXINGTON, KY. (November 20, 2017) - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce that Alexis Glover, head girls volleyball coach at Wando High School in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and Zach Young, head girls volleyball coach at Lafayette High School in Wildwood, Missouri, have been selected as the 2017 USMC/AVCA National High School Coaches of the Year.

 

The AVCA will formally present the National High School Coach of the Year awards to Glover and Young at the 2017 Jostens Coaches Honors Luncheon in Kansas City, Mo. on Thursday, December 14th. The luncheon is held in conjunction with the 2017 AVCA Convention. 

As a result of winning AVCA National Coach of the Year honors, the two coaches will lead Team East and Team West in the 10th annual Under Armour All-America Volleyball Match on Friday, December 15th  at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. Tickets for the Under Armour All-America Volleyball Match are on sale now with more details on the AVCA website.

Alexis Glover, Wando High School

 

  • Head coach at Wando High School for 31 years
  • Finished with a record of 48-4-1 going a perfect 14-0 in the region
  • Advanced to the Class AAAAA Championship in South Carolina
  • Won her 11th Lower State Championship
  • Selected the Region Coach of the Year 22 times
  • Currently sits at No. 10 in the USA Today/AVCA Super 25 National Poll
  • No. 2 state ranking in MaxPreps
  • Mentored a pair of 2017 Under Armour High School All-America Honorable Mentions (Keeghan Andrews, Brooke Medders)
  • Played volleyball at the University of South Carolina (1977-1981)
  • Will coach Team East in the Under Armour All-America Match

 

Zach Young, Lafayette High School

  • Seventh year as the head coach of Lafayette High School
  • Overall record of 35-3 and 6-0 in Class 4 District 3
  • Advanced to the Class 4 Quarterfinals
  • No. 2 MaxPreps State ranking
  • Named the 2016 USA Today National Coach of the Year
  • Won a state record six consecutive state titles from 2011-2016 (first year was as an assistant)
  • Coached one 2017 Under Armour High School All-American Honorable Mention (Merry Gebel)
  • Former setter at Lindenwood University
  • Will coach Team West in the Under Armour All-America Match
